TOP DESIGN PROJECTS BY PIERRE-YVES ROCHON

The project Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is located in Los Angeles to showcase the differences between the more commercial style of the Americans, and the more exquisite style of the French. Even though the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is filled with amazing details and powerful luxury elements, this project is clearly an Americanized version of Rochon’s projects. In this project, the spirit of Southern California meets Old Hollywood glamour at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, but we can clearly see that this project follows a more modern and clean vibe that contrasts with the more refined style of Rochon’s European hotels.

The definition of glamour itself, this project by Pierre-Yves Rochon is a grand palace of 1894 located on Piazza della Republica that mixes perfectly original details with modern luxuries. Besides that, a beautiful blend of refined Belle-Époque and Imperial details are spotted through Murano chandeliers, mosaics and Venetian mirrors.

Particularly proud of the Hotel in Firenze, this project by Pierre-Yves Rochon is a classic modern project that took some time. All in all, he took seven years to restore a converted 15th-century palace and 16th-century convent and transform them into a glamorous hotel with 116 guestrooms and 4 restaurants. He also loved bringing to life the amazing Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris, where he completely redesigned a historical location following the classical Louis XVI style!

The designer himself highlighted his work at the L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, a grandiose boutique/restaurant where he collaborated with French chef and restauranteur, Joel Robuchon. Even though it’s a different kind of hospitality project, Rochon enjoyed this project because it allowed him to experiment with a new wave of designs that could only work within a restaurant vibe.

Parisian Living Rooms Inspired by Pierre-Yves Rochon

Jean-Philippe Nuel: A Visionary in Luxury Interior Design and Modern Architecture https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/interview-with-jean-philippe-nuel/ https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/interview-with-jean-philippe-nuel/#respond Sat, 08 Feb 2025 16:26:56 +0000 http://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/?p=30396 Born in the east of France, designer Jean-Philippe Nuel has given his name to a succession of original projects. The first Baccarat hotel in Dubai, the Taj Hotel in India, Le Grand Balcon and the conversion of the Palais de Justice in Nantes are some of the most remarkable ones. Curious, passionate and perfectionist, Nuel shared with Coveted Edition his passion for luxury hotels and how design is present in his daily life.

COVETED : What has inspired you to grow, personally and professionally?

Jean-Philippe Nuel : Approaching my dreams!

Covetedition-Interview with Jean-Philippe Nuel-Jean-Philippe-Nuel_2

How would you describe your style? Do you have a signature touch on your projects?

I have a contemporary vision of design, I do not like an excessive interior design style and a too lavish decoration. As for literary where each word has its right place, I like to give meaning and depth to my projects.

Where do you draw your inspiration from when you are thinking about the design of a hotel?

My main inspiration comes from the location of the project: the country, the region, the city, the district and the architecture of the building are all important for me.

Of course all those criteria are not always mixed altogether or mixed at the same level, but in a general way, I can say that I am always inspired by the place.

I also like to be inspired by the client, whether it is a brand identity or the personality of a private client.

Why are hotel projects so exciting for you?

Hotel projects are considered as the Holy Grail for interior designers. Hotel projects are the best opportunity to build a complete world.

For me a hotel is a place which concentrates all the needs of our society: a place to work, a place to live and rest. Hotels are places that display the best our society’s changes.

Covetedition-Interview with Jean-Philippe Nuel-Jean-Philippe-Nuel_3

Is there anything exciting, that you are working on at the moment, and you can tell us about? Any new projects?

Hotel projects are always very interesting, especially when the country or the city and even the continent are different from my own culture.

I am very curious and fortunately I have achieved several projects in architecture, furniture design and lighting design.

I have just designed a restaurant chain and I am currently designing the interior design of several office buildings which are very interesting projects as the world is facing a complete transformation.

I have also designed several interior design projects for arenas: Parc des Princes and Stade de France in Paris.

 Covetedition-Interview with Jean-Philippe Nuel-Jean-Philippe-Nuel_4

Can you tell us about one of your favorite projects that you have developed?

«Le 5 Codet» is amongst my favorite projects. It is a private hotel in Paris with around 70 guestrooms where I had a truthful partnership with the client to create a place that really seems achieved to me and that reveals my own personality.

What do you love in a deluxe hotel room?

I like to be surprised, but not being inconvenienced. I like the idea of appropriating the room, the possibility of several scenarios and ways of living, without being locked in a forced scheme.

 Covetedition-Interview with Jean-Philippe Nuel-Jean-Philippe-Nuel_hotel molitor paris

What do you hate in a deluxe hotel room?

I don’ like fake, kitsch and showy luxury, I also don’t like lies and mediocrity.

Which professionals do you admire, in the architecture and design world?

Being an interior designer is a difficult job where only the ones who have something to say are successful. I really admire those who have a constituent universe.

Describe yourself in three words.

Curious. Passionate. Perfectionist.

Studio Reed And The Dramatic Interiors!

It’s a given that each Studio Reed interior is unique, but there’s no mistaking Reed’s cool neutrals, pared-down styling, and bespoke furniture. He defines his style as ‘authentic, eclectic and crafts based.

Studio Reed And The Dramatic Interiors!

Reed worked in retail design and development at Hackett and Polo Ralph Lauren, before establishing his own studio in 1996. To date, he employs 15 architects and interior designers, and another eight furniture designers. ‘Jonathan designs custom-made furniture using new, often undiscovered, hand-crafted materials and skills, set against a backdrop of finishes that are tasteful and muted,’ says lighting designer Sally Storey. ‘The result is warm, evocative and appropriate.’

Perry is a dining chair inspired by the most famous occasional designs – it features a body structure produced in solid walnut wood, which makes it a durable and solid chair. Both the seat and the back cushions are upholstered in leather, evoking a sober look that contrasts with metal shoes on its legs, made of polished brass. A mid-century masterpiece and an homage to the modern living era.
