Elizabeth Metcalfe

Elizabeth Metcalfe believes design makes a difference. It’s about helping clients live better and falling in love with their home. Good design creates a feeling of warmth and unity. It requires a commitment to detail – repetition of line and form, the subtleties of colour, the contrast of layered textures, the play of scale and proportion. A finished room may look simple, but it is not simple to do.

Jody Tyson shared her experience visiting the Covet Group showroom in Porto, providing insights into her company and projects. “I enjoy traveling the world to see different things,” Tyson expresses her penchant for global exploration. “This last April, we were in Italy and I fell in love with a wallpaper that was in a coffee shop, and I just like, had to have it. So we searched out how we could find it, and we use it in the current home that we’re working on.”

Expressing admiration for a furniture line, Jody Tyson enthuses, “I love this line. It’s been in my wheelhouse for a number of years. They’re just stunning. The workmanship is quality and beautiful. I’m very impressed with the company.” Reflecting on her visit to the factories, Tyson highlights the artisans’ dedication, “The people just cared so much about what they were doing. They’re very attentive to detail, looking at every fine thing that they were putting together.” “Loving lighting, I think lighting is the jewelry of the house,” Jody Tyson emphasizes her passion for illuminating spaces. “I love to even design lighting myself. I’ve come to my representative here, and she’s helped me create things that will work for my homes. Your bar stools and furniture pieces, it’s just a beautiful line.”

Currently embarking on a substantial renovation project, Jody Tyson shares, “I’m working on a home, renovating about a 7,000 square foot home. I’ve created wonderful outdoor areas, indoor courtyards, and living in Las Vegas, you need lots of pergolas to keep out the heat in the summertime.” Detailing her approach to new projects, Jody Tyson explains, “Creating a new project might involve changing up colors in a rug design or redoing interior doors. I see that I create something different in every room but use a lot of lighting as accents.”

Expressing gratitude for her first visit to a specific location, Jody Tyson reflects, “I was honored to be invited, and it’s been a wonderful trip so far. My daughter and I traveled together. She works for me, and we’re going on to different parts of Portugal and Spain for the next couple of weeks. We love to travel a lot.” Through Jody Tyson’s insights, a tapestry of global inspirations and meticulous design considerations emerges, showcasing a passion for unique elements that enrich the spaces she crafts at Jody’s Inspiration.

Fiona Lau Unveils The Timeless Elegance In Design https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/fiona-lau-unveils-timeless-elegance-design/ https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/fiona-lau-unveils-timeless-elegance-design/#respond Tue, 26 Dec 2023 16:23:49 +0000 https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/?p=87326 Fiona Lau, the brilliant mind behind Fiona Lau Interiors  (@fiona_lau_interiors) in California, paints a vivid picture of bespoke residential design, catering to spaces ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 square feet. Fiona Lau shared her experience visiting the Covet Group showroom in Porto, providing insights into her company and projects.

I’m the interior designer from Fiona Lau Interiors. And we do special custom was also home. And we do project between 2,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet,” Lau introduces her realm of expertise. Fiona Lau’s design philosophy revolves around crafting homes that stand the test of time. “We want to keep the style that will last long like long lasting. So it’s like those five timeless jewelry. So it will be very long lasting. So it will be not outdated,” she articulates, emphasizing the essence of timeless design akin to enduring jewelry.

Discussing her expectations from furniture companies, especially for larger-scale projects, Fiona Lau anticipates the ‘wow factor.’ “I’m expecting to see the wow factor and very unique design from from the furniture company,” she notes, seeking inspiration for her expansive 20,000 square foot modern luxury home. Her recent encounter with a furniture brand left a lasting impression. “I do see this furniture brand is very delicate. So every pieces, they are all handmade with, with heart, with, with the very delicate thinking and consideration to make these beautiful pieces,” Fiona Lau remarks, expressing admiration for the brand’s craftsmanship and unique character.

Fiona Lau finds an alluring balance in the furniture collection, observing its ability to merge modernity and tradition. “I like the furniture because like some of the pieces are very modern and with the wow factor, it will bring the like a focal point to the house,” she explains, highlighting its diverse appeal to modern and classic sensibilities.

Detailing an ongoing project—a luxurious 20,000 square foot modern home in a gated community—Lau unveils its opulent features. “And then I believe one of the safe balls from your collection will really fit into it, because he can put the safe out in the in the garage, that he can showcase cars, and then he can put his car key into the safe house,” Lau envisions integrating a safe from the furniture collection into the lavish garage space.

In Fiona Lau’s eyes, the meticulousness and organization of a Portuguese manufacturer stand out. “But this one is really nice and clean. And then I feel like this is very organized. So it’s like step by step, very organized, very professional,” she commends, reflecting on her first-time experience at the manufacturing facility. Through Fiona Lau’s lens, design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a narrative woven with threads of timelessness, craftsmanship, and exclusivity. Her pursuit of design excellence resonates in the enduring legacy she endeavors to create within luxury interiors.

United States, Canada, and The Caribbean

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay – Kauai, Hawaii

Kauai’s 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay has all the ingredients you might want to cook up a truly magical Hawaiian getaway – a swimmable beach right out front, a legendary surf break a short paddle away, a stunning main pool, great onsite bars and restaurants, a cute town nearby for exploring, and easy access to excellent hiking. But what makes this property truly stand out in an archipelago dotted with luxe oceanfront resorts is that it’s also a legitimate wellness destination, with cutting-edge medi-spa offerings as well as serious fitness and mind/body programming. Guest rooms are a study in neutrals – sand-hued walls, reclaimed teak ceilings and furniture with rope and reed accents.

The Arizona Biltmore – Phoenix

Once you’re at the Biltmore, there’s no need to really leave. You’re here to be here, though the surrounding desert landscape and Piestewa peak in full view behind the main lawn deliver the “you’re in Arizona” memo. For a hotel with over 700 rooms, each manages to feel classically luxurious without steering into the cold or cookie-cutter. Plush beds, desertscape artwork, and bulbous ceramic lamps all over make the room feel both set in the Southwest and tony enough for a Waldorf.

The Breakers Palm Beach – Florida

For a good part of a century, Palm Beach has been a winter magnet for those attracted to a luxurious oceanfront getaway. And undoubtedly the most recognizable fixture within that pull is The Breakers, a 534-room beachside hotel that presents itself less as a resort and more like a palace. The majestic narrative is in part due to the grand architecture that emulates 15th-century Italian villas, inclusive of gilded and fresco ceilings hand-painted by Florentine artisans. Guest rooms, marked by neutral shades that deliberately play second fiddle to the view of either turquoise blue ocean or verdant gardens, match the resort’s comfortable sophistication.

Casa Cipriani – New York City

This New York hotel is a Cipriani property, so it’s luxury to the max, but in that effortlessly chic Italian sort of way. Picture it: presidential suites featuring cashmere-covered walls by Loro Piana Interiors – that’s the sort of luxurious detail you’ll find in every nook and cranny of the guest rooms at Casa Cipriani. It’s hard not to fall completely under the spell of the hotel from the minute you step into your room or suite. Maybe it’s the Art Deco light fixtures or artwork on the wall. Maybe it’s the jazz playing softly in the background, or the way the setting sun hit the lacquer furniture and the shiny brass knobs. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about the guest rooms at Casa Cipriani are the private terraces.

The Charleston Place – South Carolina

Since opening in 1986, The Charleston Place has garnered praise for its architectural sleight of hand. Hidden behind a row of diminutive and colorful 19th-century storefronts lurks the Holy City’s largest hotel: a behemoth at 434 rooms, with upper floors deliberately set back to render them invisible from street view, preserving the intimate scale of the city. At ground level, good-natured jacketed greeters swing open double glass doors to usher you into gleaming marble hallways lined with high-end boutiques and galleries, culminating in a grand central lobby.

Chateau Marmont – Los Angeles

West Hollywood’s secretive Francophile-inspired institution, Chateau Marmont has been the domain of Eve Babitz, Anthony Bourdain, Hunter S Thompson, Lana Del Rey and even an annual Beyoncé and Jay-Z Oscars afterparty. In a city that is notoriously sprawling and decentralized, it is the beating heart of off-duty Hollywood, and the washed-up starlet most fun to drink with. Whether you’re peeking over your sunglasses at the infamous palm-shrouded pool or sipping something heady in the lobby bar, with its moody Old Hollywood lighting, you are a someone here – everyone is.

Eden Rock St Barths

Chic, glamourous and island-appropriate way. This is how Eden Rock St. Barths can be described. It’s the type of place that just being there makes you feel like the most glam, sun-kissed version of yourself. The hotel is almost entirely surrounded by calm, gin-bottle blue water that’s heavenly for a swim. There’s a diving platform a little ways out, and you can take out rafts and paddle around the point. The rooms are lovely and elegant, with a subtle Carib-meets-nautical vibe, at once bright and airy.

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver – Canada

Nicknamed the Castle in the City, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver feels grand at every step. The grandiose hotel’s Art Deco–influenced aesthetic leans into deep blues and bronzes, with marble and velvet accents – a look that carries into the rooms too. Left in place after the renovation was much of the building’s original woodwork, crown moldings, and built-in decorative fireplaces that keep the hotel’s historic feel alive and well.

Farmhouse Inn – Sonoma, California

Located near the Russian River, this 25-room property feels delightfully laid-back and intimate. The Inn has five different room categories, and all are beautiful with a country-chic look; bright and airy with white wainscoting, pillowy bedding, and haute-rustic touches that might include a personal welcome message, a fireplace, and comfortable overstuffed chairs. All in all, Farmhouse Inn looks and feels like a classic New England country charmer.

Four Seasons at the Surf Club – Miami

In the quiet residential enclave of Surfside, ensconced between the skin-revealing glitter of Miami Beach proper and the buttoned-up flash of Bal Harbour, the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club is a timeless and all-welcoming, new-fashioned take on old-school glamor. In 72 of the 77 guest rooms and suites in the new towers, glass balconies give way to soothing interiors by famed Paris-based creator Joseph Dirand, delivering design studies in midcentury modern updated for the present day, underscored by juxtapositions of travertine–finished spaces, clean-lined-yet-curvaceous hybrid furnishings, and tastefully gilded accents.

The Greenwich – New York City

This exquisitely designed property in Tribeca opened its doors in 2008, but feels like it’s been part of the city’s fabric for much longer. The Greenwich is the hotel’s lived-in aesthetic textures: Not one of its 87 rooms, suites, and penthouses looks like another, all furnished by your chicest, most well-traveled uncle. In the guest rooms, there are Savoir beds, hand-made and cloud-like; in the bathrooms, Carrara marble and Moroccan tile; in the lobby, terra-cotta floors modeled after those in a 14th-century Italian palazzo; in the spa, timber that once held up a 250-year-old farmhouse in Japan—all of it undeniably luxe yet somehow unpretentious.

Meadowood – Napa, California

There are a lot of excellent places to stay in Napa Valley, but Meadowood has been the veritable heart of this region for over 60 years, and it shows. From its 36 guest rooms and suites designed by locally based, globally renowned architect Howard Bracken, to its impressive wine center spotlighting the area’s best vineyards, and a spa that taps into the area’s centuries-old legacy as a wellness destination. The guest rooms and suites have a sort of chic barn feel. They aren’t at all rustic – clean lines, a sea of white and neutrals – but the wainscoting and high, beamed ceilings do give fancy farmhouse energy.

Round Hill Hotel and Villas – Montego Bay, Jamaica

It’s easy to imagine that very little has changed at Round Hill Hotel and Villas, a 1950s-era resort. The green-striped awnings shading vast terraces and the interiors’ cream-colored paneling offset by dark wood, along with the tea and sandwiches served at four sharp every afternoon, enhance that caught-in-time feeling.

Thompson Seattle

Designers and building buffs love the Thompson chain’s focus on architectural details, and its Seattle location, which debuted in 2016. With an angular glass exterior by local firm Olson Kundig and modern-yet-friendly furnishings throughout, the hotel has quickly earned a reputation as Seattle’s most stylish stay, in which the rooms are sharply furnished and understated, with dark woods, navy accents, and stately pin-striped duvets.

White Elephant Nantucket

The harborside White Elephant is a historic inn-and-cottages resort that masters classic New England chic whilst keeping up with the times. Case in point, the resort just celebrated its 100th birthday with a complete top-to-bottom renovation of the 54-key hotel and 11 on-site cottages, including a new artist-in-residency program and airy interiors paying homage to the island’s basket-weaving and seafaring heritage. Cerulean textiles, brass elephant-head door knockers, wood and leather armchairs, and marble accents compliment the ocean and white caps just beyond the window.

XV Beacon – Boston

With only seven guest rooms per floor, XV Beacon has a distinctly residential feel, and rooms are spacious but still intimate. The fact that each one comes with a personal fireplace speaks to the level of luxury and coziness here. Every detail feels special, from the Frette linens, and the one-of-a-kind commissioned artworks, to the cashmere throws, and the pillow menu. A transportive paradise of serenity and relaxation.

From Chicago To Florida | Natasha Chatkin´s Interior Design Journey https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/chicago-florida-natasha-chatkins-interior-design-journey/ https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/chicago-florida-natasha-chatkins-interior-design-journey/#respond Fri, 24 Nov 2023 16:29:37 +0000 https://www.bestinteriordesigners.eu/?p=87126 Hailing from Chicago with over 22 years of experience in residential interior design, Natasha Chatkin is the visionary behind CH Interiors. As the business owner and lead interior designer, she’s witnessed a transformation in clientele brought about by the unique circumstances of recent times.

“Covid happened, so actually, people moved from Chicago to more warm areas like Florida,” Natasha Chatkin reveals, shedding light on the shift. With Chicago’s colder climate, residents sought respite in the sunnier haven of Florida, leading to a surge in designing second residences in the sunshine state, marking significant growth for her business.

Visiting the Covet Group left a lasting impression on Natasha Chatkin. “When I saw from scratch, from the drawings, how you created this masterpiece, I would say each of them, masterpiece, how much craftsmanship involved and what the quality is that,” she expresses, in awe of the meticulous craft behind each piece. She reminisces discovering Covet Group at the Milano Furniture Show, specifically recalling the ‘Safe Millionaire’ as a standout, equating it to the epitome of handcrafted perfection, akin to a Rolls-Royce.

Reflecting on her experiences visiting Italy and the Covet Group showroom, Natasha Chatkin resonates deeply with the unique aspects of craftsmanship, especially in the mirrors. “It’s created so differently. That’s what created uniqueness of your company,” she observes, acknowledging the impactful role of details like poolcast that add an exceptional touch to designs.

Inspiration for her projects often springs from diverse sources. “Looking at some catalogs and especially like today I was observing that puzzle piece,” Natasha Chatkin notes, finding inspiration in the intricate details and color combinations in designs. She attributes her inspiration to observing various showrooms, manufacturer visits, and the curated interiors at Covet Group’s showroom.

Currently working on significant projects, Natasha Chatkin foresees collaborations for distinctive pieces like pianos, safes, and pool tables through Covet Group. Her attention to detail, ignited by discoveries like a small spider detail on a piece’s leg, fuels her enthusiasm to offer clients unique, bespoke designs. As Natasha Chatkin continues to redefine residential spaces, her journey stands as a testament to an unwavering pursuit of perfection and innovation, ensuring each design echoes the distinct essence of its inhabitants.

The success of the practice is inherent in its ability to remain agile, mobile, flexible and adaptable. Stay tuned and have a look at some projects by TPG Architecture!

JLL

JLL is a world leader in real estate services, managing over four billion square feet of property worldwide. The firm’s New York headquarters are located at 330 Madison Avenue, right in the midst of bustling Midtown. Knowing that JLL needed to expand its offices to accommodate growing needs, the firm enlisted TPG Architecture to lead a substantial renovation in place project. Subsequently, TPG Architecture provided strategy and architectural services to bring their aspirations for the space to fruition.

Lexington Partners

Founded in 1994, Lexington Partners is a global independent manager of secondary private equity and co-investment funds. In 2020, the firm came to TPG Architecture with the desire to re-envision and relocate its New York office. Lexington felt their existing space at 660 Madison was dated and did not provide the right amenities for a firm of their size and caliber. TPG Architecture worked with Lexington to create a transformative, sophisticated, and modern workplace across two floors at 399 Park Avenue.

Nusr-Et Steakhouse at New York Meatpacking

After first opening its doors in 2010, Nusr-Et Steakhouse quickly became an industry leader with its top-quality steaks and impeccable guest service. The Head Chef Nusret Gökçe garnered attention online for his unique approach to food, which ultimately earned him the distinction of “Salt Bae.” Looking to create a new food destination in the NYC market, Chef enlisted TPG Architecture to design a new eatery in the Meatpacking District. The design pays homage to Chef’s butcher background, taking inspiration from the dynamic character of the Meatpacking District. The sophisticated venue seamlessly transforms from day to night and captures the pulsating energy and essence of the neighborhood.

Heidrick & Struggles

Heidrick & Struggles is a senior-level executive search company that provides culture shaping and leadership consulting services. The firm serves 70% of the Fortune 1000, with clients in every industry around the globe. Heidrick’s progressive leadership team chose to consolidate their NYC operations and cut their overall square footage by half. TPG Architecture worked with the client to create an office space at One Vanderbilt that speaks to their company culture and transformative work.

National Hockey League

TPG Architecture has been working with the National Hockey League (NHL) since the early 1990s, beginning with their headquarters project at 1251 Avenue of the Americas. Since, the firm has executed more workplace design services, including planning, strategy, and environmental graphics for the professional sports and entertainment organization. The NHL’s move to One Manhattan West marks the third headquarters project TPG Architecture has led with the most expansive scope yet, spanning over 175,000 SF. The vision for the project was to create a workplace reflective of the dynamic and exciting nature of the sport without sacrificing functionality or future flexibility.

DZ Bank

Founded in 2001, DZ Bank is the second-largest financial institution in Germany and offers an extensive range of products and services––particularly in the commercial banking sector. Recently, DZ Bank sought to reimagine its New York City HQ, with the goal of creating an office space that reflects its corporate culture and cooperative values. The corner unit in One West End is designed by Jeffrey Beers, with floor-to-ceiling windows and walnut plank wood flooring. The custom Scavolini kitchen is finished with walnut cabinetry, champagne matter glass panels, marble slab countertops and backsplash and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen was particularly enticing with its dedicated food prep areas and built-in coffee bar. The north-facing master suite contains a walk-in closet and a five-fixture bathroom, complete with marble floors, limestone walls, a glass-enclosed shower and a separate soaking tub.

In the living room, a show-stopping blue art piece by Christina Watka slides away to reveal a television screen. Another standout detail is a custom, dual-sided fireplace that separates the living and dining spaces. An original McKim, Mead & White building, 108 Leonard is an exquisite landmarked condominium conversion located in Tribeca. The design aesthetic, made by Jeffrey Beers, speaks to the storied pedigree of this distinctive jewel and also adds a contemporary flair to its classic details. Modern Ranch | Paradise Valley, AZ

Historic Charmer | Phoenix, AZ

This Chandler, Arizona residential interior design project combines elegance and comfort with an Old World feel. The design decisions add a dash of conventional refinement to contemporary endeavors. Highlights of the project include a free-standing marble bathtub and an A-frame exercise studio with plenty of sunlight.

Modern Glam | Paradise Valley, AZ

This room, with its emphasis on sleek, angular architecture, makes the most of its open space by concentrating on simple blocks of traditional colors with dashes of color to liven the look. Wood floors and neutral gray tile combine to create a single feature that unifies the design decisions made in various spaces.

Solano Drive | Paradise Valley, AZ

Simple relaxation is the design’s guiding principle, whether it is the stylish but comfy bar stools for the breakfast bar with a view of the neighborhood peaks, the opulently furnished but neutrally colored rec room, or the understated yet luxurious dining room furniture. Geometric designs bring a bit unique flair and color to the more private sections of the home.

Clubhouse, Promontory Ranch | Park City, UT

With a strikingly contemporary rendition of a club bar, this golf club defies expectations of what a clubhouse should be. Rich wood paneling in function rooms that evoke bygone eras is contrasted with spacious, full-length glass windows to further the contrast.

Valley Vista | Paradise Valley, AZ

valley-vista

Every design decision made in this mansion aims to reflect that. Everything in the parlor, including the bar, the pool table, and the wood paneling, is done in a tasteful manner, from the rich wooden floors to the opulent spiral staircase, from the open-concept kitchen/breakfast bar overlooking the nicely tiered grounds.

Your office should seem like a second home to you—in fact, it’s where you spend the majority of your waking hours—so why do the expected thing and choose the bland, impersonal offices most businesses offer?
