Archiving the Past, Reflecting the Future

Volunteer
Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage is looking for reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to support our projects.ย At the moment we are recruiting for volunteers with a passion for heritage to supportย Unearthed: Forgotten Histories.ย ย
This is a perfect opportunity to gain real hands-on experience and participate in the behind-the-scenes work it takes to create our trailblazing projects.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to develop skills across the following areas of work:
Archives administration, access and organisation:ย
- Opportunity to develop a working knowledge of archival collections software.
- Learning about archive conventions and standards.
- Learning about the preservation of a variety of archival materials including environmental monitoring.
- Gaining knowledge of accession, selection and providing access to the archive.
- Cultural sensitivities in the production, accession, selection, and access of materials for the archive.
- Customer service skills.
Digitisation:
- Good practice and digitisation skills in archiving.
- Practical digitisation techniques and use of equipment.
- Knowledge of metadata standards and audit frameworks.
- Project planning.
- Recording and transcribing oral histories.
Digital preservation and archiving:
- Troubleshooting.
- Digital preservation principles and concepts.
- Interpreting archival material for learning and engagement.
- Knowledge of metadata standards and audit frameworks.
- Copyright and licensing.
