First woman to win the Pritzer Prize, Zaha Hadid is recognized worldwide by her distinctive and innovative architecture. Born in Iraq, the London based architectural designer creates powerful buildings easily recognizable by their fluid forms.
She moved to London to study at the Architectural Association School of Architecture where she met Rem Koolhaas one of her teachers with who she started working at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and where she later became a partner.
In 1980 she opened her own studio and lowered the voices that claimed that her architecture was impossible to build. In 2011 she was choosen to design the London Aquatics Centre for the London 2012 Olympics.
She appears in the Forbes list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women and Time’s list of Influential Thinkers. She also won the Stirling Prize two years running: in 2010, for the MAXXI Museum in Rome, and in 2011 for redesigning a state school in Brixton, the Evelyn Grace Academy.
But it’s not only in architecture that her brilliance could be seen. Hadid developed work in all fields of design, from furniture, to lighting, footwear or jewelry. The book Zaha Hadid: Form in Motion, published by Yale, collects all of these less-known projects.
